Barthes's codes are often easily found in most created media texts, such as Movies and TV shows, however some of his codes can still be prevalent in documentaries. The documentary I applied to Barthes's codes was 'Three identical strangers', as this contained evidence of hermeneutic, semantic and cultural codes, all which are theorized by Barthes. Finding Barthes's codes within a documentary was a slight struggle, but doing so has allowed me to understand similar to what I found from Todorov, that the narrative journey of a documentary can still be creative and enigmatic, as the aim of a documentary is still to entertain as much to educate. I hope to reflect some of these values in my own response to documentary.
