WATCHING SIMILAR DOCUMENTARIES

Researching similar documentaries to my own was necessary for the creation of my own documentary. The existing documentaries provide me with questions and ideas that I could implement in my own documentary. My main focus was the opening of each documentary, as I only have 5 mins to show for my documentary, I must need an effective opening. It was striking that most of the documentaries I watched were participatory, however with my documentary being expository, I can challenge some of the typical codes and conventions of common documentaries. Watching the interviews in these documentaries gave me inspiration for my own, and informed me of important questions I can ask my interviewees, in order to get their messages across. Each of the documentaries acted as an exposé which was a theme that I wanted to follow in my own documentary. I appreciate the idea that I am trying to unveil a unique experience that is not highly discussed, though increasingly lived. I found this blog incredibly rewarding in making, as I provided myself was some necessities for my documentary film making, that I would not have considered if I had not watched these documentaries.
