John Grierson's 'Night mail' is a revolutionary documentary, that utilized innovative camera shots to portray actuality. Grierson, who is dubbed 'the father of documentary' delivers a romantic view of life on the railway. This has inspired me that no matter the subject of the documentary, the film can still produce beautiful shots and emotive music, as Grierson did with 'Night mail'. When I come to do my own documentary, I will hopefully look to Grierson as a way of creating a creative documentary, with an equal balance between the narrative and the visuals.
