Bill Nichols is a highly regarded film theorist, from whom has given us the idea of the six modes of documentary in film. The six modes are very useful when referring to which mode a documentary is, and equally makes it easier for determining what type of documentary I would like to do when I make my own. Nichols's work is highly reputable and the six modes of documentary is still a theory that is highly applicable, even through to the highly digital world we live in now. Finding examples of Nichols's documentary modes has equally allowed me to discover types of documentaries that I am not only interested in to watch, but to analyse and possibly re-envision with my own documentary ideas.
