Ahead of filming for my documentary, I decided to conduct some research on my topic, to familiarize myself and to provide statistics or quotes that I can use in my documentary response. I originally decided to research some immigrant statistics in the UK, to see if I could get a general feel for the state of current immigration in the UK. I then conducted more specific research into international students, and found a few statistics and facts that I could use for my own documentary. It was insightful to find limited resources on the lives of young international students, especially on young females, as this allowed me to have confidence that my documentary overs a topic that is not necessarily discussed frequently. I focused some of my research on international students and alienation, as this is a topic that I intend to delve into in my documentary. Conducting this research was equally important, as I needed to plan how I would present these facts visually, for which I needed some facts to present in order to find out. I originally planned some match cut type of shots that would link in these facts, however I felt that these did not conventionally suit the style of the documentary, so I plan on creating more simple visuals for these facts, as to not deter away from the messages.
